How do I sign up?
To sign up please go back to our home page and click on "Register" or CLICK HERE. You will be asked to enter the students date of birth which will then show you what classes he/she is eligible for. You may select a parent class to attend, or skip it if you have already attended one or are unsure if your previous credit from attending for an older child is still valid. Please know that we will need to have a copy of your certificate if you attended the parent class (within the last 5 years) at another school.
What is the cost for the driver's education course with New England Driving School?
We split our cost into 3 payments to make it easier for students to attend driver's ed! The price is $925 which includes the $15 driver's education certificate fee that the Registry charges. Of the $925 the deposit would be $525, and the rest would be split up once you are ready to schedule your road lessons ($200 minimum due to start booking, and remaining $200 due by lesson #6 of the #12 appointments).
How old do I need to be to start driver's ed?
The student can start the classroom portion of driver's education at 15 years and 9 months old. Once the student turns 16 and obtains their permit, he/she can start setting up driving hours (as long as the parent class has been attended). PLEASE NOTE; the driving hours take months to complete, do NOT wait to make your appointments, you should call the office as soon as you pass your permit test.
What does the driver's education course consist of?
In order for your driver's ed certificate to be posted and a road test to be scheduled (if under 18), the student will have to complete 30 hours of classroom time, 12 driving hours, and 6 observation hours. A 2 hour parent/guardian class must be attended as well, which is valid for 5 years incase any other siblings go through driver's education during that time frame. The student must also do 40 hours of driving with a parent/guardian by the time he or she takes the road test.
What is a "Parent Class"?
The registry requires that a parent/guardian attend a parent/guardian class if the student is under 18. It's a 2 hour class that only one parent/guardian, and not the student, has to attend. The class is valid for 5 years and we recommend that you hold onto the Parent Certificate for any future siblings that will be attending driver's ed in the future. If you attended the class at another driving school then please provide us with a copy of the certificate. We offer the parent class once a month, please PRE-REGISTER by calling 781-337-1003 if you did not select a class date at the time of registering the student for his/her session.
How do I schedule driving hours?
Driving/Observation appointments can be scheduled once the parent class has been attended/credited and the student has their permit and has attended at least 1 module (of classroom time). The 12 driving hours and 6 observation hours take time to complete so we recommend you call as soon as you get your permit so we can send you the guidelines for self-scheduling. You have 2 years to complete the course. (The course is non-refundable.)
What towns do you service for road lessons?
We service Weymouth, Braintree, Hingham, Hanover, Rockland and Abington for pick up and drop off of road lessons. If you do not live in these towns then we can establish a meeting point for your lessons.
What if I need to cancel a driving hour?
A $60 charge will be added to your account if you cancel a lesson under 24 hours (no exceptions). The student center/profile allows for cancelations to be made up until 48 hours before the appointment. Under 48 hours will require a phone call to the office and a voicemail is sufficient as it comes with a time stamp to confirm the cancelation was called in at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a charge. NO EMAILS will be accepted for cancelations.
What happens once I finish the course?
Once the office confirms that all requirements have been met, your information will be processed through the registry's database (this could take anywhere from 1-3 days). You can check the status of your certificate by logging in to your RMV Profile, there will be a section that says "Driver's Ed Completion" and if a date is posted then that means your certificate is logged. Please note, if you are 18 or older, you do not have to wait for your certificate to be processed before scheduling a road test.
How do I schedule a road test?
Once your certificate is posted and you have held your permit for 6 months (under 18), you may either request to schedule your road test through New England Driving School for an additional fee by calling the office at 781-337-1003 , or you may schedule the test on your own through your RMV Profile (which will require for you to supply your own acceptable vehicle and your own sponsor). Please note that as a driving school we have access to the RMV's "alternative schedule" which gives us the opportunity to book your road test significantly faster than the registry's normal daily schedule in which everyone has access to (you can only have ONE test scheduled at a time, so please do NOT ask NEDS to make your appointment if you already have one scheduled, or else you will forfeit your deposit).
If you have any other questions or concerns please call New England Driving School at 781-337-1003
